Vintage Cellar Review: This late harvest Torrontés is characterized by fresh aromas of flowers and pink grapefruit, a sumptuous texture on the palate and an excellent balance between sweetness and acidity, featuring pineapple, nectarine and apricot fruit. With a very gentle finish, this delightful wine is the first one of its kind in Argentina.
Flavors/Aromas: (Pg. 177) While technically including three separate varietals, this Argentinian grape possesses a good sweet-dry balance, which goes perfectly with its notes of Meyer lemon, peach, rose petal, geranium, and citrus zest.
My Review: Full disclosure: this was consumed on a night where I had already been drinking, and I originally had no intention of reviewing it. But as soon as I took my first sniff my mind changed, since I knew immediately that I held something special in my hands. Unlike many whites which tend to be less aromatic focused, this had a strong grassy tone right off the back (not too dissimilar from a Sauvignon Blanc), with a noticeable lack of fruit. However, once a bit went down the hatch, I was shocked to discover that the wine was... SWEET?! It was completely different than what the scent suggested, and I was all for it because it was absolutely excellent! With pear and apricot tastes complemented by some citrus, and a taste that dominated everywhere (shoutout to the feeling on the side of my tongue), another bottle of this will surely make an appearance in my fridge very soon.
Food Pairing: I had this with some Asiago cheese. It killed the sweetness, so what was the point?
