Winemaker Notes: This wine pays homage to Australia's "Rum Rebellion" and thus a portion has been aged for 30 days in rum barrels. Dark with jammy flavors and a smokey finish.
Flavors/Aromas: (Pg. ???) Well considering that I have no knowledge of the grapes in this wine, I don't really think I can answer this properly. Of note, later editions of this wine advertise "notes of sweet mocha, caramel and spice."
My Review: This was another wine from my roommate's collection, but unlike the Cabernet Sauvignon, this one had very little info publicly available, hence all of the shoddy reporting on display above. Looks we have a wine mystery on our hands! Upon sniffing it for the first time, I simply smelled alcohol, meaning that the 14% content is definitely no joke. There were also hints of black licorice in there, and that was what predominately graced my palate following sippage. Honestly at first it was pretty mid, with some high tannins thrown in there to keep my from consuming it too fast. However, just when I thought all hope was lost, I caught a bit of mocha in there, and suddenly everything made sense. I'm pretty sure this should have been consumed younger, as many of the flavors that made it special seemed to have aged out of it. To further test my hypothesis, I sniffed the inside of the bottle, and sure enough - caramel mocha. Had I drunk this a few years ago, I might have enjoyed it like a desert wine, with sweet-ish flavors paired with a nice buzz aftewards. For now, it was just... okay.
